Our Mission
ChakmaStory.com was founded in New York City by members of the Chakma diaspora, united by a common purpose: to amplify the voices of the Jumma peoples of the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT).
For too long, the stories of the Chakma, Marma, Tripura, and other Jumma communities have been silenced or distorted. Behind official narratives of “development” and “progress” lie decades of displacement, militarization, cultural erasure, and unfulfilled promises. From the flooding of ancestral lands by the Kaptai Dam, to the broken commitments of the 1997 Peace Accord, the Jumma people have endured struggles that the world barely hears about.
Our mission is to:
- Highlight the plight and agony faced by Jumma communities, past and present.
- Document history and struggles to ensure that our people’s sacrifices are not forgotten.
- Celebrate culture and resilience, showing the richness of Chakma and Jumma traditions alongside the hardships.
- Articulate our message on the world stage, ensuring that the voices of Indigenous peoples from the CHT are heard by international audiences, policymakers, and human rights advocates.
Why New York?
Based in New York — a global crossroads — ChakmaStory.com speaks from the heart of the diaspora to the wider world. We believe the experiences of our people are not just a regional issue, but part of a global struggle for Indigenous rights, justice, and dignity.
Our Vision
We envision a future where:
- The Jumma people are recognized, respected, and free from displacement and violence.
- The broken promises of peace and justice are fulfilled.
- Our children inherit not only our pain but also our pride — the pride of a people who refused to be erased.
ChakmaStory.com is more than a website. It is a platform, a memory, and a movement — carrying the message of the Jumma people from the valleys of the CHT to the world stage.
